Pirates Charities Family Walk - event photo
On the morning of May 14, members of our Pirates community gathered at PNC Park to take part in the Pirates Charities Family Walk, presented by Allegheny Health Network, benefiting mental health. Pirates players, families, front office staff, fans and partners all came together for a fun-filled walk throughout the ballpark, followed by a carnival celebration on our Riverwalk. Fans enjoyed games, activities and the opportunity to engage with a number of non-profit partners who provided fans resources and the comfort of knowing that our community stands together in reducing the stigma around mental health. Proceeds from the event benefitted Pirates Charities mental health programming.

Pirates Mental Health Awareness Game Recap
Mental Health Awareness Game - photo
As The Pirates took on the Reds on the evening of May 14, Pirates Charities continued its celebration of Mental Health Awareness Month. The Chuckie Mahoney Memorial Foundation was highlighted during pregame for the wonderful work that they do in our community, raising funds for mental health services in the name of their son who tragically lost his life to his own mental health struggles. The game's first pitch was thrown by Dr. William Davies of Allegheny Health Network who is the founder of AHN's Chill Project which embeds mental health services into area schools, making these life-saving resources readily available for area youth. Additionally, throughout the game, Pirates Charities collected signatures on a Mental Health Commitment Banner, which currently hangs outside of the Right Field Gate, as a symbol of our community's pledge to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

To support the continued fight in our region against breast cancer and the continued improvement of patient care, Pirates Charities was proud to donate $10,000 to two very worthy non-profit organizations during the Pirates Breast Cancer Support game on May 15. Both The Susan G. Komen Foundation and A Glimmer of Hope Foundation offer support to those in their battle against breast cancer, and Pirates Charities is proud to support them. In honor of the partnership with these organizations, Courtney Brown, breast cancer warrior, was the Pirates Honorary Bat Girl on this day. Her daughter threw out our first pitch to Dr. Matthew Miller, who is a strong advocate for breast cancer research along with Allegheny Health Network.

These groups were recognized pregame alongside families from TAPS – Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors – an organization who provides care for families of America's fallen heroes. Throughout the 2022 season, during each Monday home game, the Pirates will continue to highlight local military organizations.
