On Saturday, January 22, the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Steelers came together to give back to our neighbors in need through a distribution event to celebrate the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. In honor of Dr. King Jr.'s legacy and spirit for community, the three teams came together with nonprofit partner Convoy of Hope, along with the help of the Voter Empowerment Education and Enrichment Movement, Community Empowerment Association, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and B3 Foundation to distribute free groceries, shoes and socks and voter registration information to Pittsburghers in the Hill District, North Side and Homestead. This marked the second time in the last three months that these three Pittsburgh teams have come together to support the community, following a successful Thanksgiving Dinner distribution in November.

Youth Baseball & Softball Equipment Drive
Youth Baseball & Softball Equipment Drive
Last year, the Pirates learned of a truly inspiring story of local Pirates RBI player, Clark Ehman, a 14-year-old student from the city's Northside neighborhood who collected six shipping containers full of baseball/softball equipment. Clark and his family traversed the Pittsburgh area collecting the equipment for youth players in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela. In learning of these efforts, the Pirates stepped in to provide the shipping containers for packaging, and later this year, will be coordinating the shipping and distribution of the equipment, with the help of the Pirates Dominican Republic Academy and contacts in Venezuela. Inspired by Clark's efforts, the Pirates hosted a one-day equipment drive at PNC Park, asking the public to bring their gently used baseball and softball equipment to add to Clark's collection. Thanks to our community and fans, we successfully filled 20 containers with hundreds of baseballs, softballs, bats, gloves, helmets, and more that will empower youth to play the game worldwide.
